Alliant Energy is currently recruiting for a Relief Plant Operator in Lansing, IA. In this position you will perform a variety of duties as you will be the primary relief for multiple positions within the generating plant ranging from plant operator to plant maintenance. As such, the ability to adapt to new situations and learn new skills is essential. A complete list of duties and responsibilities can be found below.
This position is on a 8 hour rotating shift schedule.

Essential:
Responsible to perform the work functions in whichever classification the individual is working in.
Perform other related work as required for the safe, orderly, efficient and harmonious operation of the plant.
Supervise and assist in training other operating employees.
Clean and assist in general plant housekeeping requirements.
Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Responsibilities:
In the absence of supervision, assume full charge of plant and grounds.
Gather water samples and perform lab tests as required.
Note : This position is posted at an Journeyman and Apprentice level, many qualifications listed below apply to Journeyman level candidates.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by courses in steam power plant operation, practical electricity and power plant apprenticeship training course.
Training:
Apprenticeship training.
Licenses/Certificates:
Obtain and maintain valid driver''s license.
Experience:
Internal seniority and progression system; Interstate Power
Company training program; minimum of three (3) years in actual power plant operations.
Physical Requirements/Demands:
Good health; good eyesight: color vision - field and depth perception; ability to properly wear all safety equipment; some climbing involved; ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds; not afraid of heights.
KSA (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Ability to read blueprints, maintenance manuals, technical manuals; mechanical aptitude; reading and math knowledge; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and comprehend Right To Know information; basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR; ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies; capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution.
Environmental:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions; confined spaces, height, moving mechanical parts, exposure to heat/cold, fumes, dust, noise, water; subject to shift changes.
